300 level Hatha Yoga Teacher Training

300 LEVEL HATHA TEACHER TRAINING – 250 hours: February – July 2021
Share your love of yoga and become a qualified, confident teacher with Shakti Yoga Teaching Academy and Therapy Centre! The 300 Level internationally accredited (YAI) teacher training course runs over a period of 6 months with classes on Thursday evenings and Sundays from 10:30am till 2:00pm.
The accumulated number of hours on our course is over 250 so you will be ready to teach a yoga class with confidence on completion! The course has been running for over 10 years and has graduates teaching all over the world.

The next course begins on Sunday the 14th February and ends on the 11th July 2021

2021 TEACHERS TRAINING COURSE (250 hours)

Prerequisites

A minimum of 6 months of regular, weekly yoga practice (any style). You will also need to be in a generally good state of health to manage with the physical components of this training.

Financial and time commitments:

The course runs over a 6 month period, with classes on Sundays from 10:30am till 2:00pm and on Thursday evenings from 5:30 till 8:30pm / 9pm as well as a residential weekend (Fri-Sun) in May (Friday 28th till Sunday 30st May 2021).

There will also be two Saturday classes in May and June from 10:30 till 1:00pm.

All classes take place in the Saraswati Yogic Learning Space at no 6 Oak Avenue, Norscot Slopes (near the Douglasdale Police Station), Fourways Ext 12 (Joburg).

Investment: SA Residents R18 500.00 (includes text book, manual, residential weekend, notes, lectures, etc). It can be paid off in monthly instalments.

There is a 10% discount for full, upfront payments made before the 15th of January 2021 (R1850.00 off the total).

Total: R18 500.00 (excluding the optional CPR certificate which is an additional R350.00)

A non-refundable deposit of R4000.00 secures your placement on the course.

International Students: USD $1570.00 / EUR € 1280 / GBP £ 1140.00

If you decide to register, it is strongly advised to record your yoga classes as soon as possible (you need to accumulate 100 hours by the 10th  July 2021) – you can complete them at any yoga studio / Virgin Active, etc that offers Hatha yoga classes.

To confirm your registration kindly pay the deposit of R4000.00. This must be done before the 5th of February 2021.  Group size is a maximum of 12 per course.

It will be expected of you to do self-study and to develop your own personal yoga practice. Estimated time required: Minimum 1 hour per day. This is necessary for you in order to be able to teach yoga from a point of personal experience and not merely from poses learned in a book.
In order to gain practical experience it will be expected of you to attend a minimum of three yoga classes a week either at Shakti Yoga Centre or at a yoga school closest to you. If the classes are done with another teacher a register must be signed documenting your hours. You will also be required to teach at least ten 60 – 75 minute classes as part of your course. You will receive written feedback on each class.
You will also have the option to specialise in Kids, Yin, Yoga therapy, Pregnancy or Aerial Yoga once you have completed the 300 level Hatha TTC. Please contact Taryn Elise for further details.

  • Distractions and Obstacles in Yoga
  • The Yogic Philosophy (Patanjali)
  • Daily Yoga Practice- the benefits and how to design your own personal practice for improved health and general well-being

The TTC program focuses on classic Hatha yoga postures with emphasis on inner awareness and the importance of breath. The training provides a holistic approach to yoga, combining Hatha yoga instruction, meditation, chanting, pranayama, anatomy and physiology

  • Learn the basics of the most important yoga postures
  • Learn how to modify the postures to suit your goals and flexibility
  • Experience the vital link between yoga postures and meditation
  • Explore the important topics of Raja yoga and the yoga sutras of Patanjali
  • Ensure a safer and deeper practice by learning anatomy and physiology
  • Learn to teach those with special needs: senior citizens & children v Develop confidence in your teaching skills
  • Learn how to organise and present classes. etc.

Functional Anatomy

Basic understanding and overview of each of the following:

  • The Skeletal System
  • The Main Muscle Groups

  • Functional Anatomy
  • Injury Prevention
  • Flexibility
  • Common Injuries

Asana (Postures)- Beginners Group

The effects, benefits, and contra-indications of each asana (posture) group will be covered in detail.

  • Part 1: Anti-rheumatic group
  • Part 2: Digestive group
  • Part 3: Energy Balancing group
  • Standing Asanas
  • Meditation Asanas
  • Relaxation Asanas
  • Vajrasana (thunderbolt) group of asanas

The art and science of Sequencing (How to put a yoga class together). The principles and methods needed to design an appropriate yoga class.

Asana (Postures)- Intermediate Group

The effects, benefits, and contra-indications of each asana (posture) group will be covered in detail.

  • Backward Bending Asanas
  • Forward Bending Asanas
  • Spinal Twisting Asanas
  • Inverted Asanas
  • Balancing Asanas

Breathing techniques

The effects, benefits, and contra-indications of each breathing technique will be covered in detail. Abdominal Breathing, Yogic Breathing, Alternate Nostril Breathing, Cooling Breath, Hissing Breath, etc

 Other Modules

  • Bandhas and Mudras (to control the energy flow in the body)
  • Yogic Cleansing Practises (these will be done over the weekend retreat, please note attendance is compulsory).
  • The Seven Main Energy centres in the body (chakras)
  • Therapeutic Yoga (basic understanding and introduction)
  • Yoga as an aid for obesity, weight loss, anxiety, depression, etc
  • Relaxation: Techniques and Principles
  • Meditation: Definition, principle, approach and different techniques
  • Yoga for Children – approach, pre-cautions and hints
  • Yoga for Pregnancy – approach, pre-cautions and hints
  • Introduction to Ayurveda and Vedanta (philosophy)

Self Discovery

Who am I?: Success and personal discovery through finding your purpose, passion and potential.

Power and Fear: Recognising personal and collective fears. Changing fear to power and building self-confidence.

Certification

Theoretical and practical examination will take place throughout the course. Class tests will be written at most lectures and assignments will also be given. A minimum of 90% class attendance is required. At the end of the course you will receive a certificate from Shakti Yoga Centre if all the criteria have been met. After this you can apply with YAI and Yoga Teachers Fellowship for membership.

You are welcome to do the course purely to deepen your own understanding of Yoga but you will still be required to write the same tests and practical exams as for those wanting to teach. Physical, mental and emotional commitment are expected of all students that want to enrol for the Teachers Training Course. Please ensure that you have the required time and commitment to complete the course.

International Standards

For those wanting to become accredited yoga teachers you will be assisted in registering with Yoga Alliance International, based in Delhi, India. This course meets all the criteria for the international yoga standards and is fully accredited with Yoga Alliance International.

This Creditation is not a certification program, rather it is a listing of yoga schools and yoga teachers whose training and experience meets certain minimum international standards as described below. The creditation listing differentiates three levels of training: a 100, 200-hour / level, 300 – hour and 500-hour / level. The SYC programme is a Level 3 (300-hour) level.

Minimum Yoga Teacher Standards
The Shakti Yoga Centre TTC standards are in accordance with Yoga Alliance International and the International Yoga Federation (IYF), and similar international yoga bodies.
